Special Session on Rough Set Foundations @ JRS’12

JRS12 – Special Session on Rough Set Foundations

Session co-chair: M. Chakraborty, D. Ciucci, T.Y. Lin
Brief Description
Rough Sets play a fundamental role in uncertainty management where available knowledge cannot accurately describe reality. Since their proposal by Z. Pawlak in 1981, they proved their usefulness in several applications. Moreover, links among rough sets and several fields of mathematics have been established. Generalizations are continuously proposed in order to extend the applicability of rough sets and create connections with other paradigms, for instance, fuzzy sets and formal concept analysis.
The present session is aimed to bring together researchers interested in the discussion about foundations of rough sets: the links with other paradigms, what can be included under the umbrella ‘Rough Set Theory’, the mathematics of rough sets and so on.
It follows the session proposed at JRS07 and the Rough Set Theory (RST) workshop series held in Milano (2009, 2011) and Zheijang (2010).

Topics
Topics of interest include but are not limited to:
• Philosophical aspects of rough set theory
• Rough Sets and Logic (modal, many-valued, algebraic)
• Rough Sets and Mathematics (topology, algebras, mereology, etc.)
• Relationship with other paradigms (formal concept analysis, fuzzy sets, near sets, etc.)

Submission
Submissions will follow standard JRS procedure:
• Each paper should have no more than eight (8) pages in the Springer-Verlag LNCS style, including figures, tables and references.
• Submission is available through the easychair platform
• Deadline is February 15, 2012

Please, while submitting specify that the paper is for the “Rough Set Foundations” session and send a copy of the PDF file also to ciucci@irit.fr

For more information please contact: ciucci@irit.fr

Basic Issues In Rough Sets @IPMU 2012

BASIC ISSUES IN ROUGH SETS

Special session at IPMU 2012
July, 9-13, 2012 – Catania

Organizers: Ciucci Davide, Dubois Didier

Rough Sets play a fundamental role in uncertainty management where available knowledge cannot accurately describe reality. Beyond their practical use in different fields, great importance is deserved in literature also to mathematical and philosophical aspects of rough sets. This special session is aimed to bring together researchers that are interested in the basic aspects of rough sets.
Topics of interest include but are not limited to:

·      Algebraic structures in rough set theory
·      Rough set logics
·      Philosophical aspects of rough set theory
·      Complexity of rough set-related optimization/decision problems
·      Relationship with other paradigms (formal concept analysis, fuzzy sets, ill-known or bipolar sets, near sets…)
·      Topological and modal approach to roughness

Papers  will undergo the normal IPMU reviewing process.
All information about submission and venue can be found on IPMU page.

Important dates:
December 10, 2011: Submission of papers
February 25, 2012: Notification of acceptance
March 31, 2012: Submission of final papers
