THE FIFTH ROUGH SET THEORY WORKSHOP

(associated event of RSKT 2014)

The ROUGH SET THEORY (RST) series of workshops is devoted
to the state-of-the-art and future prospects of rough sets
considered from a theoretical standpoint. ROUGH SETS were
introduced by Zdzisław Pawlak in the early eighties and developed
further as a mathematical method of knowledge representation and
processing/reasoning under uncertain data and incomplete information.
Nowadays, ROUGH SET THEORY is widely recognised to have a great
importance in several fields, such as granular computing, data mining
and approximate reasoning. This is witnessed by the increasing number
of papers concerned with not only applications, but also with
foundations of rough sets and their possible modifications
(hybridisations). Thus the FRONTIERS of ROUGH SET THEORY are
expanded today into many directions.
The leading topic of the fifth RST workshop is:

FRONTIERS IN ROUGH SET THEORY:
FORMS AND INTERPRETATIONS OF CONCEPT APPROXIMATIONS

We would like to start discussion on possible interpretations and
mathematical representations of concept approximations. Thus the main
topic includes, e.g. modal logic interpretations, topological
representations, tripartition of a universe, positive and negative
preferences, and many others.

The fifth RST workshop is a part of the 9th International Conference
on Rough Sets and Knowledge Technology (RSKT 2014), which will be held
from October 24 to October 26, 2014 in Tongji University, Shanghai, China.

Potential authors are cordially invited to submit original,
unpublished papers covering the leading topic. Each paper should have
10–12 pages in the Springer-Verlag LNCS style, including figures,
tables and references. Springer-Verlag author instructions are
available at http://www.springer.com/lncs. All accepted papers will
be published in the main conference proceedings. It is also expected
that one of the authors will present their paper at the workshop.
The authors are invited to submit their full papers via the RSKT 2014
electronic paper submission system. The URL for paper submission

As in the previous RST workshops, the program committee encourages
also submission of EXTENDED ABSTRACTS. The authors of abstracts are
asked to send their submissions to RST 2014 Chairs:

JRS 2014 – Joint Rough Set Symposium

We welcome your participation and contribution to the 2014 Joint Rough Set Symposium (JRS 2014), a joint conference of the 9th International Conference on Rough Sets and Current Trends in Computing (RSCTC 2014) and the 2nd International Conference on Rough Sets and Intelligent Systems Paradigms (RSEISP 2014).

JRS was organized for the first time in 2007 and was re-established in 2012 as the major flagship IRSS-sponsored event gathering different rough-set-related conferences and workshops every year. This year, it will provide a forum for researchers and practitioners interested in rough sets, fuzzy sets, intelligent systems, and complex data analysis. The proceedings will be published in Springer’s Lecture Notes in Computer Science (LNCS) Series, and authors of the best papers will be invited to extend their papers for inclusion in special issues of selected ISI-ranked journals. Author(s) of the best paper will receive an award sponsored by Springer.

The symposium will be held jointly in Granada and Madrid, two prime locations within Spain. Transport between both venues will be arranged by the conference organization.

TUTORIALS AND SPECIAL SESSIONS

We welcome proposals for tutorials, lasting between 1 and 3 hours, on topics relevant to the symposium. Proposals up to 5 pages long are invited that identify the intended audience and the topics to be covered.

We also launch a call for special sessions on specific topics related to the symposium. We especially encourage proposals on interdisciplinary topics and new emerging areas of interest to the rough set community. Special sessions may not only be an opportunity to bring together researchers in relevant fields, but also to foster the development of rough set theory, granular computing, data mining, machine learning and related topics. The papers will go through the normal reviewing process and session chairs will be involved in the reviewing process. Each session should have at least four presentations. Proposals for tutorials and special sessions should be addressed by email to jrs2014@ctb.upm.es.

SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Authors are invited to submit original research contributions not concurrently submitted elsewhere. Normal length papers should be between 8 and 10 pages, formatted according to Springer’s Lecture Notes in Computer Science style (detailed instructions for submissions will be available at the symposium website).

The 2013 Joint Rough Set Symposium (JRS 2013) is a joint conference of the RSCTC 2013 and RSKT 2013. RSCTC is a main biannual conference of the International Rough Set Society. It is an outgrowth of a series of annual International Workshops devoted to the subject of rough sets, started in 1992. The aim of RSCTC’13 is to show case the state-of-the-art in rough set theory, current computing methods and their applications. It intends to bring together researchers and practitioners from universities, laboratories and industry, to facilitate dialogue and cooperation. RSKT’13 is the 8th in a series of annual conferences on rough sets and knowledge technology. Its aim is to encourage academic and industrial interaction, and promote collaborative research and developmental activities in rough sets and knowledge technology worldwide. JRS’13 will provide a large forum for researchers and practitioners interested in rough set theory, computational intelligence, and knowledge technology.

Proposals for 90-minute tutorials are also invited on relevant topics. Tutorial proposals less than 5 pages long are invited that identify the intended audience and give enough information to give a sense of what will be covered.

Paper Submission

Authors are invited to submit original research contributions not concurrently submitted elsewhere. Normal length papers should be between 8 and 10 pages, formatted in Springer’s single column format (detailed instructions for submissions are given below). Submitted papers will be refereed by at least three reviewers for quality, correctness, originality, and relevance. Notification and reviews will be communicated via email. Authors of the best papers will be invited to extend their papers for inclusion in a special issue of some journals. Papers reporting original research results and experience are solicited.
